Crane Sconce Light

Tools: illustrator, laser cutter, & heat gun

Crane is a frosted acrylic sconce lamp inspired by the single-sheet paper folding element of origami.
Its "angelic" light diffusion and welcoming form make it ideal for the home in a reading nook or bedroom.

This is what most people think of as a sconce lamp.
Symmetric, even diffusion, & elegant.

So how might I challenge that definition?
My solution is Crane. Made of a single sheet of heat-folded laser-cut frosted acrylic, Crane's welcoming personality can find a home in nearly any space in the home.

Ideation & Light Play

After ideation and light play, goals of simplicity and elegance established going into prototyping.

Further development: Mounting Features and Wings for light diffusion were added.
Illustrator was used to create and format flat designs for laser-cutting.

4 iterations with gradual improvements over the course of a week led to the final model of Crane.
